The Ritual

What is matcha?

A finely ground green tea, shade-grown and stone-milled. Consumed whole — not steeped. The result is a richer flavour, a deeper colour, and a different kind of energy.

Why matcha over coffee?

Not better. Different. Coffee spikes and crashes. Matcha — through a combination of caffeine and L-theanine — delivers calm, sustained focus. The kind that supports a morning without disrupting it.

What is L-theanine?

An amino acid found naturally in green tea. It promotes alpha brain wave activity — a relaxed, alert state. Combined with caffeine, it smooths the lift and removes the edge.

What is Uchi?

A modern matcha system. The Base holds your matcha. The Pod refills when empty. The tools prepare every cup. Designed to make the ritual effortless — and worth doing every day.

The System

Do I need the Base?

Yes. The Pod is not resealable once opened. Without the Base, your matcha is exposed to air, heat, and light — and will lose freshness quickly. The Base is what makes the system work.

How does the system work?

The Base stores your Pod and seals in freshness. When the Pod is empty, replace it. The Base stays on your counter. The Pod is recycled. Nothing is wasted.

Which bundle is right for me?

Home — the Base and your first Pod. Everything you need to begin.
Home + Whisk — adds the Whisk. Everything you need to make matcha properly.
Complete — the Base, Pod, and all four tools. Nothing missing.

Can I use any matcha in the Base?

The Base is designed for Uchi Pods specifically. Other matcha can be used but the Pod format ensures freshness and the right fit.

How long does a Pod last?

Each Pod contains 40g — around 20 servings at 2g per cup. Most people refill every 2–4 weeks depending on their routine.

The Matcha

Where does your matcha come from?

Uji, Japan. A region with centuries of tea cultivation — considered the finest origin for ceremonial grade matcha. Our leaves are shade-grown to develop umami depth, hand-picked, and stone-milled into a fine powder.

What does ceremonial grade mean?

Ceremonial grade is not a regulated term — but it is a widely accepted standard for the highest quality matcha. It indicates leaves picked from the top of the plant, processed with care, and intended to be consumed as a drink — not used in cooking or baking.

How does it taste?

Smooth, slightly sweet, with a natural umami depth. High quality matcha should not be bitter. If yours is, the water may be too hot.

How much caffeine does it contain?

Around 64mg per 2g serving. Less than a standard espresso but longer lasting — sustained over 3–4 hours rather than 1–2.

The Tools

What does the Whisk do?

The Whisk — a traditional bamboo chasen — creates the smooth foam that defines a proper bowl of matcha. It is the difference between dissolved powder and a properly prepared cup. Replace every 3 months.

What does the Sieve do?

Sifts the matcha before whisking. Removes clumps and ensures a smooth, even texture in every cup. Always sift first.

What is the Bowl for?

Designed specifically for whisking. Its wide base and high walls give the Whisk room to move — essential for creating the right foam.

What is the Spoon for?

Measures 1g precisely per level scoop without the need for a scale. The right dose every time.

Preparation

How do I prepare matcha?

Sift 2g into your bowl. Add 40ml of water at 70°C — never boiling. Whisk in a W motion until smooth and foamy. Add 120ml of water or milk to finish.

Why use 70°C water?

Boiling water damages the nutrients and brings out bitterness. 70°C preserves the flavour and the L-theanine.

Can I make a latte?

Yes. Prepare the matcha concentrate first — 2g in 30ml of hot water — then add steamed or cold milk.

Can I add sweetener?

Yes. Good matcha has a natural sweetness but the flavour can feel intense if you're new to it. A touch of honey, maple syrup or sugar works well.

What if I'm new to matcha?

Uchi's ceremonial grade matcha has a naturally smooth, umami-rich flavour. Quite different from the bitter taste of lower grades.

If you're trying matcha for the first time, start with a latte using your preferred milk. As your palate adjusts, try it with water to experience the full depth of flavour.
