Our story

Most matcha comes in a tin. You use it, you discard it, you reorder. The object never mattered, only what was inside.

Uchi started with a disagreement with that idea.

The matcha matters. Obviously. Uchi sources exclusively from Horii Shichimeien in Uji, Japan. The estate has been producing matcha for over 160 years. We work with them because consistency at that level is not marketing, it is generational.

But what holds it should matter equally. How it sits on your counter. How it makes you feel when you reach for it first thing in the morning, before anything else has started. That thinking became a system. A stainless steel Base, designed to stay. An aluminium Pod filled with matcha, designed to be replaced. You keep one. You refill the other. The Base is permanent, a quiet object that earns its place the way a well-chosen piece of furniture does. The Pod is the refill, arriving when you need it, recycled when you're done with it.

It is not a subscription box. It is not a matcha kit. It is a considered system for a daily ritual, built for the person who does not accept less from the things they use every day.

Uchi was founded by June, a trained chef who had been building in food for years. Custom cakes, catering, the kind of work where every detail is controlled because the person receiving it deserves that.

The brand came from a period of deliberate change. A step away from an earlier career, a sharper focus on presence, on daily structure, on building something that matched the life she was designing rather than the one she inherited. Uchi was the product she wanted on her own counter. When it did not exist, she made it.

Almost every matcha she found was good enough inside and forgettable on the outside. So she started with the object itself and worked backward, from how it looks on a counter at six in the morning to what is inside it.

Every material in the Uchi system was chosen against a single question: will this last, and what happens when it doesn't?

Stainless steel, for permanence. A single tin outlives its owner.
Aluminium, for its place in a closed loop: endlessly recyclable, without loss.
Packaging, designed to return to the cycle it came from.
The system, built to be refilled, not replaced.

We do not call ourselves sustainable. We call ourselves deliberate. And we refine, e everyday quietly, what can still be refined.

Uchi is for the person who already knows what they like.

Who has opinions about the objects in their kitchen, the routine they protect in the morning, the things they keep and the things they let go. This is the matcha brand that was always missing from that life.
